SVU is a police procedural crime drama TV series set in New York City. The stories of the episodes are usually taken directly from the headlines in newspapers or loosely based on crimes that received media attention. The series was created and produced by Dick Wolf. It premiered in September 1999 and is currently in it's 14th season.

Mariska Hargitay plays Detective Olivia Benson. Hargitay has portrayed Benson in all 14 seasons of the show. The character of Benson is very complex. She is a very street smart, hard headed person who can also emotionally connect with crime victims while still remaining a level of professionalism. |
Christopher Meloni played Detective Elliot Stabler. Meloni portrayed Stabler for the first 12 seasons of the show. Stabler was a very heated character. He wasn't one to go easy on the suspects or perps. However, he was usually able to connect very well with the victims. |
