Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, and Emily Fields are all brought together because of one reason: Alison DiLaurentis.
Alison was their queen bee but when she suddenly goes missing one summer, the clique falls apart.
A year after her disappearance, the body of Alison DiLaurentis was found.
After her funeral, the 4 girls begin receiving text messages from a mysterious figure who calls them self "A."
"A" threatens to expose all of the girls secrets that only Alison knew.
"A" brings the 4 girls back together and leads them to different pieces of information about Ali's disappearance all while endangering their lives.
Aria Montgomery is played by Lucy Hale. Aria is seen as the artsy one of the group who returns to Rosewood after spending a year in Iceland with her family. She soon meets Ezra Fitz in a bar, only to discover he's her English teacher.
Spencer Hastings is played by Troian Bellisario. Spencer is seen as the nerd of the group. She is a perfectionist who is always trying to compete with her older sister Melissa for their parents affection. It is believed that Spencer was one of the last people to see Alison alive before her disappearance.
Hanna Marin is played by Ashley Benson. Hanna is seen as the "it" girl of the group although it is revealed she struggled with self image and bulimia when Alison was around. Hanna became the queen of the school alongside Mona Vanderwaal once Alison disappeared.
Emily Fields is played by Shay Mitchell. Emily is seen as the jock of the group. Emily is the most sensitive member of the group, struggling with her sexuality and the loss of their friend Alison.
Alison DiLaurentis is played by Sasha Pieterse. Alison was the queen been of the clique and the girl who ruled the school...before she went missing.
Mona Vanderwaal is played by Janel Parrish. There was a time Mona was desperate to be accepted by Alison and her clique, but to them she was just a dork. Since Alison's disappearance, she took over the school alongside Hanna. However we learn in Season 2 that Mona is "A," or at least part of the "A Team."
Jenna Marshall is played by Tammin Sursok. Jenna lost her eyesight in an accident and everywhere she goes people stare and whisper. However, Aria, Hanna, Emily, and Spencer know exactly what happened the night Jenna lost her vision and that puts the 4 of them at the top of her list.
Toby Cavanaugh is played by Kegan Allen. Toby is Jenna's stepbrother and was arrested for Alison's murder in Season 1. He was later released due to insufficient evidence. When Spencer becomes a person on interest, Toby helps her find answers as to why she is "A's" newest victim and the two quickly become a couple.
Jason DiLaurentis is played by Drew Van Acker. Jason is Alison's brother who mysteriously moves back to Rosewood. He remains guarded with his sister's friends which causes them to wonder what exactly he is hiding.
Melissa Hastings is played by Torrey Devitto. Melissa is Spencer's older sister who seemingly has everything she has ever wanted. However, when Melissa's name is continuously mentioned in regards to Ali's disappearance, Spencer can't help but wonder exactly who her older sister is.
