The
Beginning Tattoos are an important part to my life. Most of the women in my family are tattooed. My aunts have them, my mom has them, even my grandmother has them. I started when I was 18 and currently have 3. The fourth tattoo should be coming soon. I'm not into tattoos for the heck of them, I have personal stories behind each tattoo and I want them to tell a story on their own. |

My
first tattoo was a dragon. I always loved dragons as a kid, and I wanted one to be tattooed to me when I got older. I got the idea for placing the tattoo on my shoulder after watching a Xena episode and saw how one character had her entire back tattooed with a dragon on it. Rather than having an entire back piece I settled for a small Welsh dragon to go on my left shoulder. I've been thinking of getting another dragon wrapped around a Celtic Cross on the right shoulder, but that remains up in the air. Why a dragon? I was born in the year of the Dragon and drew them all the time. I love stories of knights and dragons, but always wished the dragons won. Dragons are strong, wise, and mystical creatures. |
My
second tattoo was a few months after my first tatoo. My
mother and I got the same one, hers was a gift from me and my brothers for mother's day. It is a Celtic Spiral. While researching Celtic designs, I read a tale that this design was given to apprentices after 7 years of service in the Druid religion. After the 7 years, the students were allowed to become full fledge participants in Druid rituals. This design was given to represent the passage of student to master. I got this one a few weeks before my high school Graduation. I wanted something represent my journey from my teen years to adulthood. |
My
Third tattoo was a special one. I haven't gotten any
tattoos since my second one in high school, and after 2 years I decided to get another one. I decided to get a trumpet. This tattoo is probably the most personal to me. It is my first colored tattoo as well. Check out the music page for the low down. After the journey that music has put me through, and the places that I have been in my life, I decided that this tattoo would be a personal reminder and sign of dedication to one of the most importnat things in my life. The artist who did this for me took an actual photograph that I printed out, and came up with this detailed work of art on my right arm. Why the right arm? I use my right hand to play the trumpet...and I want to get a guitar on the other arm because I fret with the left. |

More
Info: I also have a number of piercings including the industrial and belly button piercing. Most of the work (sans the 2 holes on my lobes) have been done by the same woman. I go to Skin Deep Tattoo in Levittown. Check out their work at their myspace. Check out Deb's photo album if you're not convinced by my own tattoos by her. |
Does
it Hurt? It doesn't really hurt that much. It depends on the place you get it. For me personally, my trumpet tattoo was the most painful because of the spot that I chose to get it in. It was also a very emotional tat to receive. The two black and white ones didn't hurt much at all, and none of my piercings hurt more than a pinch. Bleeding wise...it depends on the person. My first tattoo didn't bleed that much, my second bled quite a bit, but my third one bled a lot. How do you care for the Tattoos? Treat it as an cut. Wash it to help with the healing and flaking skin, and "goo" it with certain tattoo lotions or skin creams like neosporin. |
