Welcome!
A Star Story
All over the world people used to look up at the sky and gaze the
stars to make sense of the world around them. Some used it to tell
myths other to tell history and others simply for fun. In
any case, the stars have been at some point a part of history and
still to this day, stories are told with the stars as part of
culture. There was some believe it or not with what people across
the glove saw.
One very prominent case was how different cultures viewed the
Pleiades Star cluster. Consistently, this star cluster was
referred to as a group of sisters, and this was very close to the
truth as all the stars in this group are part of the same nebula-
the same birth place - and are therefore, also composed of the
same material, like sisters.
One story that interprets this star cluster as sister comes from
the Kiowa Tribe and it shows us an attempt to explain the
appearance of the Devil's Tower. The story follows that a group of
sisters were once chased away from their tribe by gigantic and
fierce bears. The girls ran out of places to run and hide and
resorted to praying to a rock spirit who was so thankful and
surprised to be prayed to that it grew and grew enormously large
and tall. The large ferocious bears tried to climb the growing
rock and scratched it's sides but to no avail. However, the rock
grew so tall that the sisters reached the sky and remain their
never to return to their tribe.
