What are Repeated Frequencies?


Imagine that you are a police officer.  You are stationed in an area that is over 40 miles away from your main headquarters.  Yet, when you radio your headquarters, you can hear them loud and clear.  How is this possible?


Repeaters are devices that broadcast activity on a frequency in order to extend the range of a transmission.  For an example of this, reference the picture below.

The above picture is an excellent representation of how repeaters work.  They are vital to the success of any type of mobile agency, as they allow the mobile unit to communicate to the base station with ease.  Moreover, they are the basis by which trunked radio systems and encrypted radio systems are founded upon.
