This inlet is located on the east side of the entrance to Oyster Bay Harbor, at the northwestern point of Loyd Neck and is part of Caumsett State Park. It is a great place to go and meet up with other boats or just to go and relax on the water during a quiet day. Even when the bay and Long Island Sound are rough, this inlet will provide glass-calm, relaxing water. Getting into this inlet can be tricky because of the jetties that protect it from the south and northwest. However, there is a yellow buoy that marks the center in between the jetties, and to get in, you must line the buoy up with last tree on the land, but be careful: during low tide, there is less than three feet of water to get in, so you have to time your arrivals and departures just right.
Oyster Bay Harbor is one of my favorite places for
water sports or a relaxing day on the water. Even if the
wind is blowing and the Sound is rough, the protected waters of
Oyster Bay are excellent for exploring, fishing, or just
relaxing. For water sports, you will want to go to the west
side. There, you will find over a mile-long strip of calm
water perfect for both experienced and novice riders. For
fishing, follow the massive schools of bunker for bluefish and
snapper. If you just want to relax, then head over to Centre
Island. On the south side of the Island is a cove perfect
for drifting while taking a break from the action, or you can go
to the north cove ,where there are always boats tied up on the
weekends.
