CSC 160 Announcements

12/19/07: All Fall 2007 semester grades are posted on CLASS.
12/17/07: Section 02 semester grades are now posted on CLASS.
12/12/07: I will not hold office hours during finals week. However, I will have office hours on M 12/17 from 8:30-9:55am and 12:45-1:30pm, or by appointment.
12/12/07: There will be no class on F 12/14. However, I will be in the lab at the regular time for students who wish to do homework, have questions, or need to review.
12/10/07: For HW10 exercise 5.1.2, since you are working with strings and not symbols, the remainder of the question involving check-with-gui will not work, so just do the part of the question I state here.
11/28/07: Quiz #6, the last quiz of the semester, will be on Friday December 7th.
11/24/07: The final exam for Section 01 (the 9am class) will be on Wednesday 12/19 from 8:00-10:00am in the usual classroom.
11/24/07: The final exam for Section 02 (the 10am class) will be on Monday 12/17 from 10:30am-12:30pm in Levermore 305.
11/16/07: An extra credit assignment has been posted for students who scored below 80 on the Midterm Exam.
11/14/07: For HW7 Exercise 8.6.3, only skip the last two lines (not the last four lines).
11/7/07: There will be no class or office hours on W 11/21 or F 11/23.
11/7/07: Quiz #5 will be on Monday 11/19.
10/31/07: Quiz #4 will be on Wednesday 11/7.
10/24/07: Midterm Exam Solutions are posted on Blackboard.
10/17/07: Before Friday's class, please read both versions of counterchange and checkerboard2 posted under Solutions on Blackboard.
10/8/07: On Weds 10/10, I will have my office hour from 8:15-8:55am, instead of the usual time.
10/3/07: The Midterm Exam will be on Wednesday 10/24. For more information, please log on to Blackboard.
10/3/07: Quiz #3 will be on Wednesday October 10.
9/30/07: In HW3, questions 4.1.3a and 4.1.3b, the word "length" should have been "height". I just corrected it. So no penalty if you used the 20 before the 10 in rectangle instead of after.
9/28/07: Solutions for HW2 and Quiz 2 are now posted on Blackboard.
9/24/07: Quiz 2 is postponed to Wednesday September 26 at the start of class.
9/24/07: To prevent DrScheme from randomly shutting down, go to "Scheme->Limit memory" then limit it to 128, click OK, and click Run.
9/21/07: You cannot open two separate DrScheme files separately. But you can go to File->New or File->Open from any DrScheme file to open another one.
9/21/07: All HW1's and HW2's submitted after 11:59pm on Monday 9/24/07 will be given a grade of zero. No exceptions!
9/16/07: There were two typos in the solution to Quiz 1 I posted to Blackboard on Wednesday. For question 2, I put "reflect-vert" instead of "rotate-180". For question 3, The last closed parenthesis was missing. I have made these corrections to the solutions on Blackboard.
9/14/07: All the questions for HW3, due Weds 9/26, are now posted. (If it still says MORE COMING SOON, then please click Refresh.)
9/12/07: Quiz 2 will be on Monday September 24.
9/9/07: Please note that the filenames specified under "Submitting Your Assignment" in HW2 are what you name the assignment on your computer before opening Blackboard or Digital Dropbox. They do not refer to what you type in on Digital Dropbox.
9/7/07: Exercises 3.4.2 and 3.4.3 have been removed from HW2. They will be part of HW3.
9/7/07: The "My Grades" function on Blackboard is now working.
9/3/07: All students both classes should have already received an e-mail with their HW1 grade. If you did not receive one, please e-mail me to let me know.
9/2/07: Quiz 1 (on Chapters 1 and 2) will be rescheduled for Monday 9/10. HW2 is extended to Wed 9/12 at 3:59pm.

8/28/07: We are not allowed to have two Blackboard course pages, so we will have only the one page Computer Programming for Non-Majors. So to adjust what the syllabus says about the Blackboard Learning System,
1) I will use the gradebook on this page for both sections.
2) For section-specific announcements, I will either post the announcement here, or use e-mail, so please make sure you have the e-mail address listed on Blackboard that you want me to use.
Sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you, Prof. Wittenstein

8/27/07: Quiz 1 will be on Friday 9/7.

8/27/07: HW2 is posted. It is due on Monday 9/10.

8/26/07: I have just found out that tiles.ss is missing from the list of teachpacks in DrScheme version 370. So please ignore the steps in Section 2.1.4 of the reading assignment. Instead, do the following:
To permanently install tiles.ss (and the other teachpack file sb-world.ss needed before you use overlay in Section 2.2.4), please use the following directions:
1) Go to the Links tab on the class web page (or the Web Links tab on Blackboard).
2) Scroll down to the heading Downloads.
3) Save the file "tiles.ss" (or "sb-world.ss") somewhere on your computer.
4) Open DrScheme. Go to "Language->Add Teachpack->Install Teachpack".
5) Navigate to wherever you put "tiles.ss" (or "sb-world.ss") and select it.
6) It will now appear on the list of available teachpacks.
7) Click on it from that list and click OK.
8) Click Run.
Now the teachpack "tiles.ss" (or "sb-world.ss") should now be listed every time you start DrScheme.
Please email me if you have any questions about this, or anything else. I hope you are enjoying your weekend, Prof. Wittenstein

8/24/07: As of now, the section specific pages for this course, labeled by "CSC 160 gradebook", cannot be viewed by you or me. I hope this will be fixed early next week. As indicated in the syllabus, those pages will only be used for posting grades and section specific announcements. So for now, just check the other Blackboard page "Computer Programming for Non-Majors" and/or the class web site at http://www.adelphi.edu/~wittensa/csc160/f07. If any of this is unclear to you, please e-mail me as soon as possible so I can clarify. I am very sorry for any inconvenience.

8/20/07: The first class is on Friday August 24.
