Install the software package DrScheme
Version 370,
which is available for free download for Windows, Macintosh, and
Unix.
Read the Syllabus.
Read the Joys
(and Woes) of the Craft of Programming.
Read Section
1 of How to Design Programs.
Read Chapters 1 and 2 of Dr. Bloch's textbook.
Write at
least one posting (30 words or more) on Blackboard's Discussion Board on
any of the readings. It can be your reaction, a question about something
you do not understand, or a response to a classmate's posting.
Write a short essay (about 300-600 words) that summarizes and
gives your opinion on each of the above reading assignments. The essay will be graded primarily on whether I'm convinced you've read
the material and thought about it carefully, although really bad spelling,
grammar, or style may cost you points too. Make sure your first
and last name, and section (-01 or -02), is at the top of your
essay!
Submitting your Assignment
Please submit your essay either in class or using the Digital Dropbox in
the Tools menu on Blackboard. If you submit
it using the Digital Dropbox, please submit a .doc or .txt
file where the filename is HW1 followed by your section (-01 or -02)
followed by your last name.
