My Chemical Romance WAS an emo rock band from Newark, New Jersey. After witnessing the terror attacks on 9/11, Gerard Way decided to start a band. Gerard recruited his brother Mikey to play bass, his friends Frank Iero and Ray Toro to play guitar, and the rest is history. Their debut album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, was released in 2002. Next came Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge in 2004, The Black Parade in 2007, and Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys in 2009. On March 22, 2013, they posted the following statement to their website, announcing their breakup after twelve years:
