Social Studies Lessons

Grade 3- Living in Communities Unit Lessons
Theses are five lessons that make up a Social Studies unit on communities.  The unit was developed for social studies method course, and is geared towards my third grade class while I was observing in Elmont, NY.  For a context statement on particulars about this community please view my 'Context Statement' under the 'Experiences' link.

In Class Field Trip
During one of my classes, we were discussing the fact that in our teaching careers we may come across schools and or parents that do not have sufficient funds to pay for students to go on field trips.  Our assignment in the methods course was to create an in class field trip for your students.  My group members and I went to Ellis Island to learn for ourselves, and then brought the knowledge back to our students in a field trip type of manner.  We used PowerPoint to make slide show as we had students go through an imitation of the immigration process.
