Procedure:
o First the teacher will begin by asking if anyone knows what a natural resource is.
o The teacher will have students look around the classroom and state everything they think comes from natural resources, or that uses energy.
o Then ask students: What would happen if we did not have those resources to use?
o Now that the students know what a natural resource is, the teacher will go on to give examples of some other natural resources, supplementing the explanations with pictures.
o Vocabulary: natural resource, mineral, conservation, preserve, recycle
o The teacher will in form students of Earth Day which is April 22.
o Next, the teacher will explain the importance of natural resources, and what they are used for.
o The teacher will then ask students of the natural resources in our community.
o Students are to think of ways to help protect our natural resources and to preserve the environment
o Students will work in groups of 5, which is how their desks are arranged.
o Each group will have a piece of construction paper and markers to make a list of at least 3 ways the class can help protect and preserve our environment.
Closure:
After approximately 15 minutes of working in groups, each group will present their list to the class. Once all groups of presented the class will vote on the best three methods and those will be put into use in our classroom.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed throughout the lesson’s discussion, as well as during the activity. The teacher will walk around to observe the development of the lists. The students will also be assessed based on their presentations of the lists.
