10. The Bracebridge Dinner (Season 2, episode
10)
Original Air date: December 11, 2001
Brief Summary: The Independence Inn plans out a themed dinner
for a visiting business. When they can't make it due to snow,
the dinner is held instead for the town. An episode with great
comedy and a forming chemistry between Rory and Jess,
this is great for being very pleasant and also a nice example of
Stars Hollow's weird activities.
9. You Jump, I Jump Jack (Season 5, episode
7)
Original Air date: November 2, 2004
Brief Summary: While investigating the Life and Death Brigade (a
secret society at Yale), Rory is taken to one of their
extravagant
get-togethers. Logan introduces her to the club's eccentric
members as well as convince her to jump off a giant not-sturdy
tower.
This episode is a great development for Rory's character, as she
gets to express a different side of her personality, and also
starts
the beginning of her relationship with Logan.
8. A-Tisket, A-Tasket (Season 2, Episode 13)
Original air date: February 5th, 2002
Brief Summary: Another crazy town adventure, Lorelai and Rory
create baskets with food for people to bid on them. Rory,
wanting
to spend the day with Dean, has her basket won by Jess, who
outbids Dean to annoy him. Lorelai, wanting to find
someone
who can clean out her rain gutters, gets caught in a bidding war
between two suitors paid by Miss Patty to date Lorelai--
until Luke steps in to save the day. The Gilmores spend their
afternoons with the highest bidders with Rory growing
closer to Jess-much to Dean's worry,
7. The Festival of Living Art (Season 4,
Episode 7)
Original air date: November 4, 2003
Brief Summary: The Gilmores participate in another town event:
an art festival where citizens pose as the characters in famous
paintings.
While this is going on, Sookie is preparing to give birth. This
episode is extremely interesting with the way they recreate
the famous paintings and sculptures. There is also humor with
Lorelai worrying if she will flinch for her role
and a feud between Kirk and another citizen, who are playing
Jesus and Judas respectively.
6. The Deer Hunters (Season 1, Episode 4)
Original Air date: October 26, 2000
Brief Summary: Rory has still not fully adjusted to life at
Chilton and has gotten multiple poor grades on exams and papers.
She has
a big exam coming up--the Shakespeare exam--and Lorelai helps
her study. They stay up too late studying and oversleep, leading
Rory to
have to drive to Chilton only to arrive--because
she gets hit by a deer--too late to take her
exam. Rory and Lorelai have matching
rants towards the Headmaster. This is one of the first really
great episodes that demonstrates almost every aspect of the
Gilmores' personalities.
5. Raincoats and Recipes (Season 4, Episode
22)
Original air date: May 18, 2004
Brief Summary: It's opening day at the Dragonfly Inn and
everything seems like it will go according to plan, until it
doesn't.
Lorelai's parents--currently separated--do not like their
daughter's plans to get them back together. Jason shows up
trying to reconnect to Lorelai, which angers Luke who has
finally realized his true feelings for her. Rory and Dean
continue to reconnect,
leading to a very terrible decision for the two of them. It's a
crazy season finale with many happy moments mixed with comedy.
4. Love, Daisies, and Troubadours (Season 1,
Episode 21)
Original Air date: May 10, 2001
Brief Summary: Another season finale filled with great moments.
Rory is still unable to confess her feelings for Dean, but tries
her best
in a way that is completely Rory. Lorelai is still conflicted
about dating Max--Rory's teacher--but he does whatever he can
to convince her to stay. And the town argues about troubadours.
Gilmore Girls has some great season finales, and this one
is probably the happiest. A confession, a proposal, and a great
conclusion to wonderful season.
3. Let Me Hear Your Balalaikas Ringing Out
(Season 6, Episode 8)
Original air date: November 8, 2005
Brief Summary: Rory is still living with her grandparents while
she is fighting with her mother. However, that situation is
becoming
almost unbearable for Rory as Emily and Richard try to put up
boundaries and limitations for her social life. She gets an
unexpected
visitor in Jess, now a writer living in Philadelphia, who comes
to see her but is upset with her current situation. He is
ultimately the
one to convince Rory that she is on the wrong path and that she
needs to rectify the situation. Luke and Lorelai also sponsor
a girls' soccer team--to hilarious results. Lorelai breaks down
wondering if she's a good mother because her dog is sick
(but really it is about Rory). This is a underrated episode that
gets Gilmore Girls back on the right path after a difficult
period in its history.
2. I Can't Get Started (Season 2, Episode 22)
Original Air date: May 21, 2002
Brief Summary: The best of the season finales, this episode
focuses on the preparations for Sookie and Jackson's wedding.
The real story
revolves around the love lives' of the Gilmores. Lorelai spends
the night with Chris and it looks like they may
finally get back together, until he gets a call from Sherry
changes everything. Rory, seemingly committed to making things
work with Dean after her adventures with Jess in New York, has
an unexpected surprise from someone
who returns on the day of the wedding. The hectic nature of the
finale complete with classic Gilmore moments
combines for a truly great episode that makes you want to start
season 3 right away.
1. They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They? (Season
3, Episode 7)
Original Air date: November 12, 2002
Brief Summary: The best Stars Hollow town event: The 24 hour
dance marathon. What craziness could happen in 24 hours? A lot.
Lorelai
needs a partner for the dance marathon to avenge a loss to Kirk.
So, they only person she can get is Rory. All they need to do
is stay dancing on the floor for 24 hours. Well that gets
difficult when Jess decides to watch the whole thing, annoying
Dean and Rory.
When Lorelai uses her "yellow card" to fix her shoe, Dean takes
over to make sure Rory stays standing. However, Rory can only
focus on
Jess, as they bicker back and forth. Dean realizes this isn't
just bickering and breaks up with Rory, causing her to leave the
dance floor.
Jess finds her and they finally admit their feelings. Rory comes
back to find Lorelai while Kirk takes his victory lap around
them.
The episode is directed perfectly, building up to the end. The
side stories are also enjoyable, filled with great comedy. The
last scene
is one the great iconic moments in Gilmore Girls history.
