Jazz Co is a dance company that
my high school and middle school offered to both boys and girls.
I have danced for it from 7th grade to 12th grade. This picture
is the seniors of 2007; including myself. The program runs from
September to February and puts on a series of productions consisting of
4 shows. |
During the summer of 2007 I worked at a summer camp as a counselor for girls ages 4-6 years old. The camp is run by Long Beach Recreation Department and runs from the end of June until the end of August. With the camp, I supervised trips to the city pool and tennis courts, bowling alley, Splish Splash, and Adventureland for both boys and girls ages 4-12. | The high school I attended,
Eastchester High School, had several benefits to help cancers patients
and to donate to the organization Operation Smile. This
particular photograph was taken after Rock Against Cancer in
2007. My two friends and I are supporting leukemia by donating to
the cause and by wearing
orange ribbons and making tee-shirts with our friend's name on them who
currently has the disease. |

For several years, I have helped women
with Breast Cancer by donating to the foundation and being an active
participant in the annual walks. The walk that I specifically
participated in was a several mile stretch in Purchase, NY; through
Manhattanville College and SUNY Purchase. With a disease that
effects so many women and is very hard to gain control over once it has
started spreading, I think it is important for many supporters to come
out and participate in any event concerning it. As a future
physical educator, I would encourage my students to take part in such
activities, not only to help others and get involved in the community,
but because it is a great form of constant non-strenuous excerise. |
Since I love playing sports and
knowing so much about the rules of each game, in the Fall of 2005 I
decided to coach after school clinics at the elementary school I have
previously attended. The school is Our Lady of Fatima School in
Scarsdale, NY and the programs I have coached are soccer and baseball
to first through fifth grade boys and girls. The idea to get
involved was presented to me by the head coach, Richard Nardone.
The experience was a complete eye-opener for me and taught me, not only
to appreciate physical education, but to value coaching and mentoring
as well. Through these programs, which I stayed involved with
until my leave for college, it has led me to want bring education
outside the gymnasium and to a coaching position. |
