Originated in the dream of Mama herself Mama’s Kitchen started out as a dream in the heart of Grandma. Brought to the world from the island of Jamaica all the way to the depths of New York Mama's Kitchen was built from the ground up in the middle class neighborhood of Laurelton, Queens, in the summer of 1991. Along with two of her daughters Mama was able to turn this once dream into a reality, one could only describe as unforeseen. What started out only as a small family business to work through the everyday struggle just to make ends meet by serving Jamaican dishes has now expanded into a flourishing business which incorporates a diverse menu. All while still keeping the original style that has made Mama's Kitchen a house-warming feeling to those who were looking for a taste of the island without having to leave home. Opened in the summer of 1991 and having re-opened Labor Day weekend of 2009 the once named Mama's Kitchen since being re-named Schins has become a neighbor hood pillar. Although the unique cooking of Mama herself is not physically present since moving back to Jamaica her children along with their younger family members have continued the tradition. The newly named Mama's Kitchen/Schins have since come a long way with the remodeling and everything changed. But, one thing if any that has remained would be the one of a kind exquisite home cooking of Mama's two daughters themselves. Bringing the finest of everything Jamaica has to offer all the way to the United States with one day looking to bring it back. Schins is taking on the task of giving the best of both worlds all while offering the good taste of home on the road.
