Story Prompts

The Earth could no longer support human life, but thankfully an evacuation plan was set into place.  A lottery taking into account profession, IQ and overall health.  Millions of people
were saved but billions perished.  A new human civilization has been born.  Develop the new government system, a planet ecosystem and culture where one of the three presents a problem.
Your main character grapples with the reality of how s/he is a human survivor but that so many others died.  Therefore, s/he sees it as her duty to do something worthwhile and that
means taking on the dictatorial government, hostile environment, or a distopian cultural system.

We are not alone in the universe.  Leaving Earth to satellite human settlements in another solar system, has caused us to meet another intelligent life form (or more than one!).  There is
a war, but not humans versus aliens.  In the war humans and aliens, intermixed, fight each other as plants fight for the right to govern themselves and while older more established planets
fight to rule as hegemony.  The humans who have allied with the alien government are the ones who want this change because there is power in it form them.  Meanwhile, rebel aliens
who have never agreed with their government join with the humans of the poorer settlements who fight for independence.

Creating Aliens

Consider these Questions:

What does your species call themselves? What do humans call them? (There is more depth if they are different.)
Do they have a government? How is it organized? Are there different factions? (Humans have different countries religions for example.)
What does your species look like?  Do they have the same senses as humans?  Do they have and additional sense?  What makes sense based on the context of their environment?  Evolutionarily why would they have developed this way What is their disposition?  Humans tend to crave for more: more knowledge, possessions, constantly expanding outwards.  What are their motives?  What are the different dispositions within the species?  Do they have a religion?  Or are they not as concerned with having an understanding of after death etc?
What kind of technology do they have?  Is it more advanced than human technology or less advanced? Were the space explorers or did humans discover them when they arrived at this habitable planet.
How do they react to humans?  Take into account whether or not they have had contact with other forms of alien life and how far along they are technologically.  Consider how humans would react to aliens now, how humans may have reacted 100 or 1,000 years ago.  Perhaps humans are one of many species they have encountered or perhaps through ignorance they are seen as gods.
