Web
Study Site
Create a New Test Study page on your website with the elements
below.
- Create a blank new page and create a link called "Web Test Study"
to that new page from your index.
- Use Paint to create a picture that you would click on to get your
email using paint. Write your name on the picture. (If you are using a
macintosh, any other program will do.)
- Open it in irfanview and save it as a gif. (and then look at the
filesize in windows explorer to see the difference)
- Put that gif on your new page and make it a link to your e-mail,
so when you click on the picture, your e-mail comes up.
- Change the title of the page to STUDY.
- Create a table with a border, and put the following inside
each cell (one per cell):
- link to another part of your web page
- link to another web address
- At the bottom of the page, link back to your first page.
- Make this new page show on the internet
Detailed Instructions (but try without them first)
Rationale behind this exercise:
- Gain speed and competence in creating new pages with lots of
different types of links and making them show on the internet.
- Fully understand through use that the picture is its own file
- Fully understand through use that each web page is a separate file
- See the difference between the bmp and gif so that you will
understand why gif (or jpeg) is more desirable for the internet. (You
see the same, but one file is much larger.)
- Practice linking from a picture with the e-mail link.
