Web Study Site Steps
Create a New Test Study page on your website with the elements
below.
Before you start: Create a mirror of your panther's public_html folder
on your system.
If you need help, see: Copy your web page from Panther to your
PC (same as from the web change day)
1. Create a blank new page and create a link called "Web Test Study"
to that new page from your index.
- Open Mozilla
- File / New Composer Page
- File / Format / Page Title, and then type web study as the title.
- File / Save As, and then save this empty page as webstudy.html in
the same folder that holds your index.
- File / Open File and choose index.
- Type "Web Test Study" and highlight it
- Insert / link
- Hit the Choose file button
- Double click on the webstudy file that you created. Click OK.
- File / save
- File / browse
- Click on Web Test Study to see your new page.
- Close the browser window.

2. Use Paint to create a picture that you would click on to get your
email using paint. Write your name on the picture. (If you are using a
macintosh, any other program will do.)
- Start / program / paint
- Create any picture and then click on the A and then on the
picture and write your name
- Save the picture into the same folder that holds your index.
- This was similar to the movie: Paint
3. Open it in irfanview and save it as a gif.
- Start / program / irfanview
- File / open and click on the picture you just made
- File / save as, and then navigate to the same folder as your
index, and change the file type from bmp to jpg and save
- Open windows explorer and view the details of the .bmp and .gif
files to see that the .gif is alot smaller.

4. Put that gif on your new page and make it a link to your e-mail,
so when you click on the picture, your e-mail comes up.
- Back in Mozilla composer
- File / open file
- click on your webstudy file.
- Insert image
- double click on the picture you created.
- Click on the link tab
- Type "mailto:" followed by your email with no space.
- Click okay

5. Change the title of the page to STUDY.
- File / page title
- Change the title to STUDY
- This was similar to the movie: Set the title
6. Create a table with a border, and put the following inside
each cell (one per cell):
- Table / Insert Table
- Set 1 row by 2 columns with border of 1
7. link to another part of your web page
- Under the table, type 5 enters and then type middle and then 5
enters and bottom.
- Highlight the word middle
- Insert / named anchor and type middle and okay. This creates an
anchor named middle to go to that part of the page.
- Click into the first cell
- Type "Middle"
- Highlight "Middle" and insert / link
- Press the down arrow and double click on middle.
- This was similar to the movie: Create a link to another spot on your own
page
8. link to another web address
- Minimize composer
- open Internet explorer
- Enter the web site you want and press enter
- Copy that address, starting with http
- Maximize composer
- Click into the second cell
- Type some words that indicate the web site and highlight them.
- Insert / Link
- Put your cursor in the link and hold the control key and the V at
the
same time to past the web address you were viewing into the link.

9. At the bottom of the page, link back to your first page.
- Type "Go Back" and highlight it
- Insert / Link
- Hit Choose File
- Double click on your index (in the same folder as the page you
are changing).
10. Make this new page show on the internet
- Save it locally with file / save
- Open FTP explorer and Windows Explorer.
- Double click public_html in ftp explorer
- Double click the folder tha contains your index.html in windows
explorer. (Just to be sure, double click that file to see your index
has the new link and click the new link. Then close it.)
- In windows explorer, edit / select all and then drag to panther
(which is opened to public_html)
- Test by www.adelphi.edu/~<your username>
- Right click on your link to the web study page to be sure it
doesn't include csc170 or my documents in the path.
