About The Series of Unfortunate Events
Lemony Snicket
A
Series of Unfortunate Events is a Netflix original show
that is based off a young adult book series titled the
same name by Lemony Snicket. It is narrated by Lemony
Snicket himself and follows the Baudelaire children -
Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. After their parents are killed
in an unexpected fire, the Baudelaire children quickly
become the Baudelaire orphans. They are sent to live with
their closest living relative who happens to be the
mysterious and devious Count Olaf. Count Olaf is only
after one thing - the Baudelaire's extremely large
fortune. The show depicts the adventures and hardships
that the Baudelaire's have to go through in order to break
free from Count Olaf and avoid his murderous schemes.
Throughout the show, the children come into contact with
numerous relatives that they have never even heard of or
seen before and they are constantly on the run from Count
Olaf. They also begin to uncover mysterious clues about
their parents - about a possible secret society that they
were involved in. As of now, the Baudelaire children only
know very little - such as the abbreviation V.F.D and a
strange spyglass taken from their parent's home. However,
more is definitely in store for the Baudelaire orphans.
The show debuted on Netflix on January 13th, 2017. The
first season depicted the first four books - A Bad
Beginning, The Reptile Room, The Wide Window, and the
Miserable Mill. The second season, which debuted on
Netflix on March 30th, 2018, covered the next five books -
The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, The Vile
Village, The Hostile Hospital, and The Carnivorous
Carnival. It has been picked up for a third season, which
will depict the final four books.
The show is incredibly accurate to the book series.
Therefore, if you enjoyed the book series, you will most
definitely enjoy the show (however, Lemony Snicket would
rather you didn't read or watch either to avoid entering
the horrible world of the Baudelaire children).

The books were also adapted into a movie prior
to the Netflix series. The movie was released in 2004 -
which is around the time the book series was most popular.
The movie starred Emily Browning (Violet), Liam Aiken
(Klaus), Jim Carrey (Count Olaf) and the voice of Jude Law
(Lemony Snicket). The movie only covered the first three
books. While it was said that sequels depicting the rest
of the book series would be created with the same cast,
due to issues with Paramount (the company producing the
film), the movie kept getting delayed. By the time it was
ready for filming, all the young children (especially the
twins playing Sunny) were too old to be recasted.
Therefore, Netflix decided to pick it up and develop a
show with an entirely different cast.
