Puppy mills are a way for commercial breeders to make the most
money possible in a fast and low cost way. Dogs are put in cages,
they are all crammed in together without proper healthcare, love,
and attention. The female dogs are used as puppy making machines,
they reproduce as much as they can until they are too old and
fragile. When the time comes that the female dog can not reproduce
anymore, she is killed. The puppies born in the puppy mills can
grow up to have a range of health issues from deafness to blood
and respiratory disorders. These health issues may not detectable
when they are puppies but can be shown as adults. Thankfully,
there are now more people aware of the issues with puppy
mills. Even the ASPCA filed a federal lawsuit against the
U.S Department of Agriculture for the failure to provide the basic
needs for animals in puppy mills. But there is still a long way to
go, we need to keep raising awareness to the dangers of buying a
pet at your local pet store.
