Headsets

I'm sure you're familiar with many different types of headsets there are on the market, or what hardware might be necessary to assist the hardware of the headsets themselves. There are, infact, key differences anyone would want to consider if they ever decide to possibly purchase a VR system. The biggest piece of information to keep in mind is that some headsets require gaming PC hardware and other headsets can be used right out of the box. Below I explain the key differences between several VR device that are currently available to the public.

Oculus

Oculus is one of the first ever companies to develop and sell headsets in a mainstream context. Started by a college graduate from California State University by the name of Palmer Luckey, Oculus became one of the biggest names in VR, and even further beyond once it was bought by Facebook Technologies, LLC. The company started out by selling the Oculus Rift, but then started to not sell as much with the rise of competition. Facebook went on to develop the Oculus Quest, which is currently their most sold product of their line of headsets in 2019 since it did not require PC hardware like the Rift did. They also have a third device in their line of headsets called the Oculus Go, but it's meant for entry level/avid users.

HTC

HTC used to be an all around company. They used to sell all kinds electronics such as phones, computer components, and so on. Recently however, with the release of the HTC Vive in June 2016, VR became their main focus after how successful the product was. Their main line of products involves the HTC Cosmos, the Vive Pro, and Vive Focus Enterprise. HTC Vive has notably come a long way since the original release of the system and is considered by many to be the appropriate all around VR gaming system for consumer use.

Valve Index

Being the most expensive VR headset on the market, there is no doubt that it is the ultimate VR Gaming machine. It has the best framerates, refresh rates and resolution for VR on the market, and is highly efficient in working with SteamVR, which is what most experienced VR gamers use to play their VR Games
