  PHOTOS  of   RICHIE'S  ART  WORK

His work sold well while it was on display at the Joyce Gallery in Greenport
And that, of course, is what artists want.

CURRENT HOLDINGS: Listing of Rich's AVAILABLE WORK

Rich Gulliksen's work is in private collections locally and across the Metropolitan area. Rich had a studio for many years on Warren St. in the City and worked closely with Sal Scarpitta, a well-known sculptor. His training in abstract art is reflected in his mature work as a sculptor and that is in large part what makes his animals so appealing. To my eye, they have a certain serene, solid quality (as young artist Rich loved Brancusi). None of his work is pet-like. Or fearsome. Some of his animals are literally bristling with contrast--his whiskered walruses, for example!

As the administrator of Richard Gulliksen's estate, I welcome inquiries about his art work.

Meanwile ... here, take a look at some of what Rich so lovingly created:

Fox, Yawning, in red alabaster
Fox Head Drawing.
Porcupine (for your wall)
Harbor Seal (painted wood)
Polar Bear, white alabaster sold
the Gallery (seen from the sidewalk)
Rich's Penguin is upfront, Deer Standing, partly visible farther back

More photos will be posted soon.

Besides what's posted here, Rich's work includes: Penquin Head Up (standing); Fox Tumbling (red alabaster, stone); Deer Standing (on hind legs)--a striking pose, and difficult to achieve in wood); two other seal heads. Also, there are several smaller works of art available. Unless otherwise noted, the sculptures are carved, painted wood. The Fox Head Drawing is a profile view, done in pastel crayon, framed, approx. 14 x18" in size--matted in green (charcoal would also look nice). TMcC has asked to buy the Porcupine.

ENJOY what Rich has left behind for us.

Reminder to art collectors and the public in general: Artists' works are protected by COPYRIGHT and by state and federal laws. Almost all art work is sold with the strong expectation that the buyer will preserve the artistic INTEGRITY of the piece (as originally conceived) and not modify it in any way.
Royalties may be due upon resale of a piece. Common courtesy demands that the buyer/owner NOTIFY the artist or his representative before the work is sold or given away. At least for the duration of the copyright. And, if at some later date, you are unable to keep the work and it is a one-of-a- kind piece, then you must find it a good home or else offer the artist or his representative the RIGHT of FIRST REFUSAL before disposing of the work.
