History of BMW
- BMW stands for "Bayerische Motoren Werke", which
when translated to English means "Bavarian Motor Works"
- BMW currently specializes in manufacturing cars and
motorcycles (some of the best cars in our opinion...) , and
has produced many other machines in the past such as
aircraft engines, train tracks/train engines, etc.
- BMW was officially founded in 1913 but was called
"Rapp-Motorenwerke", than became known as "Bayerische
Motoren Werke" in 1917
List of Important Dates
- In 1917, the first BMW emblem was made which
had and still does represent a "rotating propeller", and
also shows the Bavarian state colors
- In 1923, BMW made its first motorcycle
- In 1928, BMW finally started to manufacture its
first automobile (which is a day that changed BMW enthusiast
lives forever)
- In 1934, BMW started to produce aircraft engines
for the German army
- In 1941, BMW supplied the German Army with
materials needed for the World War 2
- In 1938, the motorcycle that BMW built in 1923, was
finally taken onto the road
- In 1972, BMW opened its first factory outside of
Germany, in South Africa
- 1972 was a very important year for BMW because that
year was also when they founded "BMW Motorsport", which is
the racing company of BMW and also what their more sportier
cars are classified as
- In 1973, BMW finally opened up their very own
headquarters in the city of Munich, Germany
- In 1973, BMW also established their first
dealership outside of Germany and started selling their
cars. This took place in France.
- In 1994, BMW opened its first automobile factory in
USA
- In 1998, BMW acquired the brand and naming
rights for "Rolls-Royce Motor cars"
- In 2001, BMW released the concept car of the model
called "MINI"
- In 2013, BMW announced its first electric car
series called the "I" series.
- Until this day, BMW has continued to produce the
best high quality and performance cars (although our opinion
might be bias)
