Personal Life

Diego Armando Maradona was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has five children with three different women. The people of Argentina created a religion called “Iglesia Maradoniana” and they praised him as the greatest footballer of all time. The religion has about 300,000 followers. Maradona had a very big drug and alcohol problem during his playing career and long after. He was suspended numerous times for violation of team policy when he tested positive for cocaine and this was the downfall in his career.


Early Life



Growing up Maradona was 1 of 4 children to Tota and Chitori Maradona. His family lived in poor conditions in an area called Villa Fiorito. He started his playing career at the age of 8 for Argentinos Juniors. The way he played turned heads and caught the attention of many people in Argentina. After his splendid play and totals of 116 goals in 166 games his main focus was on a move to Europe.




Napoli Years

In his years playing for Napoli he played his way to become the greatest player in club history and an idol for many young Neapolitans. He was the all-time leading goal scorer until a few years back in 2019 when Dries Mertens surpassed him. He was the captain on field because of his great success. He led Napoli to their only 2 Serie A titles in the club's history of the 94 years of being a club, along with winning 3 other trophies during his time in Napoli. He is loved and praised strongly in the eyes of every Napoli fan.


Argentina National Team

Throughout his career, every year for the national team was a special time no matter who it was against. Maradona led Argentina to it’s only World Cup win in 1986 against Germany who was a powerhouse. Maradona scored a controversial goal in the semi-final when he scored a goal with his hand and saw his team through to the finals. He referred to that play as “The Hand of God.” He is one of the best Argentinians to ever play the sport.
