History of Delta Gamma
History
- Delta Gamma was founded in Oxford, Mississippi in December
1873 at the Lewis School for Girls
- The group was founded by Mary Comfort Leonard, Eva Webb
Dodd, and Anna Boyd Ellington.
- The women sought to maintain high ideals, as to encourage the
intellectual growth and a dedication to service for college
women in order to be their best selves.
Philanthropy
- Service for Sight:
Our philanthropy, Service for Sight, supports the four schools
founded by Delta Gammas for the visually impaired and other
North American organizations that promote sight preservation and
conservation.
- Golden Anchor Program: The Golden Anchor
Program is a branch of Service for Sight. Through this program,
collegians assist Delta Gamma senior citizens, as well as other
senior citizens who reside in health care facilities throughout
the United States and Canada. Delta Gammas bring joy to their
lives through personal interaction and the bonds of friendship.
