Reserve Naval officer Steve McGarrett returns home to Oahu, to find his father’s killer. The governor offers him the chance to run his own special task force, which becomes known as “Five-O”, to investigate serious crimes on the islands. Along the way he picks up team members, Detective Danny Williams, former HPD Detective and McGarrett’s father’s old patrol partner, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua and former Chicago PD Head of SWAT, Captain Lou Grover. Together they tackle a range of crimes with more far reaching consequences than those dealt by HPD, including terrorism and serious organized crime.
