ABOUT DR. KELLY
A Brief Bio

Dr. Kelly's research interests are investigating civic readiness and engagement among disconnected youth and families/communities at-risk.  The goal of her work is to diminish social isolation and feelings of exclusion to ensure that most individuals, groups and communities are engaged in sustaining and governing their own society.

Since joining Adelphi in 2002, Dr. Kelly published several articles on civic engagement, cultural competency and social work ethics in practice.  In addition, she presented several papers on the same topics to the research/educational communities as well as the lay community.  She is a peer reviewer for several professional journals, and is an editorial board member for Youth & Society, a preeminent journal on research regarding youth development in our changing world.

As a Fahs-Beck Fellow (2007-2008), Dr. Kelly explored the civic legacy of the Civil Rights Era.  In addition, she received a grant from the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) to explore the civic attitudes of young adults of color.

In addition to being a member of NASW and SPSSI, she remains active with organizations in the Hudson Valley region of New York – including the Westchester County Youth Bureau, Girl Scouts, and the Lower Hudson Valley Perinatal Network.  Dr. Kelly continues to consult with non-profit organizations across the New York metropolitan area on improving social service delivery to ensure optimal health and well-being in at-risk, marginalized communities.
