With social media, you can potentially reach thousands if not millions of people with your message, further perpetuating your message. (Kempe, D et al., 2003)

Social media allows people to contribute raw data to the proper authorities. This can help to not only fill in scientific holes but can also help to counteract illicit activities (Di Minin, E. et al., 2015).
