At the end of the Triassic, another mass extinction wiped the slate clean of many Triassic offshoots and Permian holdovers.
Thus, the stage was set for the dinosaurs to rule the world

This is when dinosaurs had the space to grow bigger and better

Our first critter to exploit the new Jurassic world is the Dilophosaurus

At 4 to 6 meters long, this carnivore was the first of the truly big predatory dinosaurs to stalk the prehistoric world
Relatively unassuming animals like Guanlong and Yinlong also appeared in China, but keep an eye on these two, they'll be big business by the late Cretaceous.

But let's go to the real reason people remember the Jurassic: the Morrison giants

There's a lil' place in the American West called the Morrison Formation that's famous for being the home of many beloved Hollywood icons

If you find a children's book with the names of various dinosaurs, odds are some of those oh so familiar genus games will be from the Morrison

Animals like Stegosaurus, Brontosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Allosaurus, Ceratosaurus, and many more once called this stretch of the American West their home

On top of this, the Jurassic was an age of giants. With no competition, sauropods immediately became the dominant herbivores across the globe with a whole array of forms taking advantage of the fertile Jurassic wilds
