Project 4: Pythagorean Theorem
Overview
As tenth graders, this is your fourth time studying the Pythagorean
Theorem. Using what we have discussed last week, along with your prior
coursework, your assignment is to create a web page to teach and explain
the Pythagorean Theorem to a seventh grade class seeing it for the first
time.
Monday 3/31
1. Each student will create and solve two examples that involve solving
for the length of the hypotenuse giving the length of the legs.
2. Each student will create and solve two examples that involve solving
for
the length of a leg given the lengths of the hypotenuse and other leg.
3. Explore the internet for some applications of the Pythagorean
Theorem.
4. Homework: Write your own application of the Pythagorean Theorem. You
may use your textbook or the internet as a jumping off point, but the
application must be original.
Tuesday 4/1
1. Introduce how to write a web page.
2. Create web space for this assignment.
3. Post a simple web page.
4. Homework: Write an outline for your web page. Describe the content
of the home page in at least three sentences. List any links you will
create on the home page.
Wednesday 4/2
Today each student will write their home page and create links to
their other pages.
Thursday 4/3
Today each student will complete their web page.
Friday 4/4
Today we will write lessons for team teaching the Pythaogrean Theorem
to
seventh graders. In groups of two you will prepare to teach at the Middle
School on Monday. The lessons should utilize both of your web pages.
Monday 4/7
Today we will go to the middle school and teach our lessons.
Tuesday 4/8
1. Discuss how our lessons went. Include what went well and what
could be
improved if the lesson were to be taught again. Also include what we
learned about the Pythaogrean Theorem by teaching it that we may not have
realized previously.
2. Discuss why the Pythagorean Theorem makes sense.
3. Discuss how someone long ago may have come up with the Pythagorean
Theorem.
