DSC 670-123 Summer 2013 - Homework 5

**Point values below are tentative and subject to change.**

Please note the following rules for this assignment:
1) Graphing calculators (such as TI-73 or higher) may not be used on any portion of the assignment. Scientific and four-function calculators are allowed.
2) All graphs are to be created by hand. Other homework questions (including tables) can be done by hand or on the computer.
3) The answers to all questions or question parts that don't involve calculations/tables/graphs must be written in full sentences.
If you have any questions or misunderstandings about these rules, please let me know. Not following Rules 1 & 2 is a violation of the course syllabus and Adelphi's Honor Code and policies on Academic Honesty.

  • Read Sections 4.4, 5.1, and p.201-202 of the textbook.
  • Read Sections 6.1, 6.2a, and 6.2b in the Powerpoint Slides.
    Moodle Forum #3: Discussion of 8/10 lecture topics
  • 1) [6 pts.] Pick a topic covered in the 8/10 lecture [Counting Rules, Discrete Probability Distributions (including Binomial, Poission), and Continuous Probability Distributions (including Uniform, Normal)]. Write a paragraph (at least 3 sentences) describing your understanding (or misunderstanding) of that topic.
  • 2) [4 pts.] Respond to another student's posting (in at least 2 sentences). You can expand on what they said, correct any misunderstandings, and/or give your own understanding of the topic and compare with their understanding.
