Note: This is only for the 9:00 class. The 12:15 class has a different assignment.

Requirements:

Each member of the team will present one point to support the general argument. You will present your case and then follow the debating format below to convince the class that your side is the right side.

The topics are listed on the Ethics Page. You can choose a different topic if you want. Your team assignments are on the blog page. 9:00 class

The debate format:

Pro presents

Con presents

Pro has a chance to directly argue points con made, but cannot make new unrelated points.

Con has the same chance.

Pro sums

Con sums

Class votes on winner.

(Hints on developing a good debating argument: - hit the problem head on with opposing facts; - argue that their fact is merely an opinion; - argue that their fact is not statistically valid; - argue that their point is immaterial to the argument.)

GRADING:

60% - initial argument - needs to clearly state a point and be supported by a citation.

40% - argument comments - needs to present a comment that really adds to the debate. Commenting on other topics helps this grade if your argument on your own debate is not very strong.

To get 100%, you must argue effectively, and on time.
