Education Standards |
Physical activity is critical to the development and
maintenance of good health. The goal of physical education is to
develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills,
and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. A physically educated person: Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings. Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction. |

Yoga can be a very beneficial
lifetime
activity. It originates from India and was part of the Hindu religion.
Yoga is both a physical and a mental practice. The poses performed
during practiced are used to prepared the body to sit in meditation for
long periods of time. There are many different types of yoga. The two
most common forms of yoga are Raja Yoga and Hatha Yoga. Raja Yoga is
concerned with meditation and liberating the body and mind. Hatha Yoga
uses postures and poses to cleanse the body for meditation leading to
liberation. Today, most yoga classes are a mixture of both Raja and
Hatha yoga performing a series of flows and poses and ending with a
period of relaxation known as the "savasana." Yoga poses have two
names: a Sanskrit name and a English name that is normally related to
nature. |
