Here's the scoop on one of our ancestors:

Looks like this CHARLES MCLEOD is part of our extended family. His daughter Caroline married Charles Chamberlain in 1879. Both men were blacksmiths, but more important, the latter (Charles Chamberlain) appears to be one of Nan's long-lost uncles. (His sister is Mary Chamberlain Edwards, Nan's biol. mother). Nan's maternal grandparents (William & Anna B Lane Chamberlain) were born in England, married in Cleveland 1853. Nan's great-grandparents (William & Mary B Lane) and her great-aunt (Margaret M B Lane Earl) also came from England, probably between 1838 & 1851. The biggest unknown is David Edwards: Nan's biol. father, perhaps born in PA (Welsh connection unclear). In contrast, her adoptive family (Lower) is easy to trace (German & Irish, PA, OH) and so is Rita's husband: George Blair Painter - from Pittsburgh, lived in Manhattan. Wish we knew more about Rita (Nan's sister). For example, anyone know where she grew up in Ohio?
