Arguments for my position: Researchers have found certain criteria which shows that Social Media Use can be an addiction.

ยท Argument #1:Problematic Facebook users create problems and impairments in their lives.
Those who prefer online social interaction to face to face contact and use it to regulate their mood are addicted to social media. (Marino 541)
"Generation Y participants surveyed felt that the strength of their relationships was based entirely on their use of social media" (Cabral 12)

ยทArgument #2 :   The majority of the participants surveyed self-reported that they were addicted to social media

The majority of users stated that it dominates thinking and that their productivity

suffers as a result of social media use, increasing amounts of time. (Casale 84)
"The present study confirmed the role of FoMO with respect to social media problematic use and highlighted for the first time the mediating role of positive metacognitions in this           relationship." (Casale 83)

ยทArgument #3Scales have been used to develop a profile of an addictive social media
Internet addition has been categorized as an addiction within the "spectrum of impulse control. (Cabral 7)
"Addictive social media use was related to low self-esteem, being a woman,  narcissism and younger age." (Andreassen 291)

ยทArgument #4:   Researchers found that FOMO or fear of missing out caused social media addiction or problematic social media use.

"Pervasive apprehension that others might be having rewarding experiences from which one is absent was presented as responsible for high engagement and problematic Facebook            use."(Marino 541)
This study supports past research by showing negative effects that individuals regulate through social media use (Casale 85)
