My Position:Cyber bullying
has brought about many negative mental effects and should be
stopped. Trying to stop cyber bullying may be possible by trying to
limit the use of social media and educate the young adults more
about these effects and what can be done to limit them.
Arguments for my position:
#1: Cyber bullying can be prevented by schools providing more
education about it and spreading awareness about the issue.
"Internet bullying lessons should be integrated into the
school's curriculum. School counselors, in particular, could
collaborate with classroom teachers for presenting classroom
guidance sessions on appropriate Internet etiquette" (Beale,
Hall 10).
"...New Jersey's Plainfeld Public School District Web Site
presents steps students can take when cyber bullying happens.
These include cutting off communications immediately, saving and
printing copies of all messages, looking for clues that identify
the predator, telling a trusted adult..." (Dyrli 63).
#2: Parents being more vigilant, educating themselves and reaching
out to their children can really help prevent cyber bullying.
"Inform parents of web sites regularly used by
teens and the type of communications displayed. Train parents
to use technology so that they can effectively monitor their
child's communications" (Froeschle 32).
"Young people want to know that someone cares,
will listen, and will take action, as and when appropriate.
Accordingly, parents and adults should ask that children
report bullying directly to them. In addition, we suggest
adults lead by example, be on the lookout for signs of online
cruelty, and encourage empathy" (Beauchere 73).
