PRO CON WEBSITE - ARGUMENTS AGAINST MY POSITION

Arguments for my position

Social media is polarizing people’s political beliefs, which is bad for everyone. When someone only sees political information that only proves their beliefs it reinforces them. This prevents people form being open minded and the ability for someone to have an individual political thought. It’s better to see things from all sides and form one’s own opinion rather than blindly believing what they see on their screens.

Argument #1: It's good for politicians

• Politicians benefit from it, to build momentum for them. It is helpful to get them elected (Shahini-Hoxhaj 72).
• Donald Trump used Twitter heavily in his 2016 presidential campaign. "I like it because I can get also my point of view out there, and my point of view is very important to a lot of people that are looking at me," Trump said (Murse).

Argument #2: Hate groups grow with social media

• social media allows them to grow in intensity and helps them find more members (Gardner).
• The lack of filtering on socal media lets hate groups flourish, and spread agenda (Gardner).
