The Mathematics of Juggling

For most individuals, mathematics is the last thing that comes to mind when watching a juggling performance. The motivation for applying mathematics to juggling arose when a number of individuals (listed in the FAQ) wanted to record juggling patterns without attempting to draw what was going on. So a mathematical notation was invented, called Siteswaps. A set of rules exists for which numerical patterns are legal (based on what types of juggling patterns are actually possible!), and this same set of rules may be used to derive new patterns and routines.
