• Fill out the class survey on the Web.
• Make an appointment by e-mail to meet me in my office for 5-10 minutes.
• Read The Joys (and Woes) of the Craft of Programming.
• Skim Adages on Software Design and Development (I expect you to read all this stuff eventually, at your own pace.)
• Read the first chapters of both textbooks (Horstmann and Humphrey).
• Write several paragraphs on your reaction to the above reading assignments, and turn them in by email to Dr. Bloch. Be sure to include your name!
• CodeLab:
  Do the exercises in the sections entitled "READ ME FIRST" and "CH 1: expressions and operators". I've tried to arrange them more or less in increasing order of difficulty. It's a lot of exercises, but each one should take a matter of seconds.
